Hiccups – How to Cure?

Now and again I get the hiccups – usually when I have had too much to drink, or maybe too much sugar (or both – maybe too much, too fast of a sweet cocktail). When I was a teenager, though, I had a few years where it seemed like I got the hiccups nearly every day – without the alcohol (must have been growin’ pains?!). My usual way to cure the hiccups has always been to hold my breath and drink a glass of water without taking a breath. Not always easy – and, in recent years, doesn’t seem to work as well. Nowaways I usually just lay down in bed and try and relax and breathe slowly – usually ends up working.

I’m wondering what other people do to cure their hiccups?

 

I’ve heard of strange cures like breathing into a brown paper bag or holding a teaspoon full of sugar on your tongue. Never tried these ideas though. One thing is for sure – getting the hiccups is sure annoying!!
