Restaurant Review for Little Toni’s Italian Restaurant in North Hollywood.
After seeing a play at one of the numerous small theaters in the NoHo Arts District, we often like to go out after the show to eat at Little Toni’s on Lankershim. Little Toni’s stays open late and has a nice, comfortable, cozy, old-fashioned atmosphere – like an old-time pizza joint with comfy red booths covered with oilcloth tablecloths and low lighting, tables lit by hanging Tiffany-style lamps.
On Friday night, we went to see a play called “Dangerous Corner” at the Crown City Theatre – the play, written by J.B. Priestley, was an excellent mystery/melodrama (one of those guests assembled at a British country estate sort of mysteries) nicely performed by a group of talented actors. Intriguing plotline that kept me interested to the end, very entertaining show.
After the play we headed over to Little Toni’s (literally, right around the corner) for dinner. Easy street parking in front (they also have a small parking lot) at about ten p.m., Little Toni’s was lively but there were still tables available, we were seated at a booth near the back of the main dining room. This restaurants has a capable staff of waitresses, many appear to have worked there for some time – our waitress this evening was one of the more senior ladies, sweet and efficient too.
We usually get Pizza here, though they have a variety of pastas (I have had the Spaghetti with Meat Balls here before – you are given a huge serving, it has a simple, home-cooked goodness to it). This night we ordered a medium Pepperoni Pizza and a Tossed Green Salad with Italian Dressing to share – plus our usual bottle of wine. Very soon we were enjoying our glasses of wine and salad. The Tossed Green Salad here is a large-ish dinner salad that is a decent, simple salad of greens, a few tomato pieces and some Garbanzo Beans – good to share for two as a starter if you are having Pizza.
Pizza tonight was especially good – lots of cheese and crispy-cooked Pepperoni pieces. I love the thin cracker-like crust they make at Little Toni’s. Very fresh, made-from-scratch taste to their Pizza. On previous visits I have gotten the Italian Sausage Pizza, which is terrific, and a yummy Mushroom and Garlic Pizza – I love me a good Garlic Pie! Yum – can’t wait to go back to Little Toni’s again!
